Our Mission
Heartsease Counseling Center, PLLC provides mental health counseling services that aims to promote individual growth and psychological health. We understand and respect that each client is a unique individual influenced by his or her culture, family, values and beliefs, and personal identity. Our mission is to promote the growth of each client and our hope is that each individual discovers well-being.
Our Objectives
We help our clients understand and change their patterns over functioning, perfectionism, people-pleasing, burnout, anxiety, and depression. Therapy with us is a journey of learning about who you are, what you need and want, and where your limits and boundaries are. It is a journey toward self-compassion, self-awareness, and self-discovery.
Our Goals
The goals of Heartsease Counseling Center, PLLC are:
1. Provide brief counseling services to individuals and their families to promote mental health and well-being.
2. Provide clinical supervision to students in-training to become a Licensed Professional Counselor and/or Play Therapist.
3. Create jobs for clinical interns to conduct counseling sessions in a private practice setting.
Our Origin Story
Our Clinical Director and Owner, Dr. Clarissa Salinas, moved to the Rio Grande Valley in 2018 and recognized that members of the community had limited access to mental health services. Specifically, she noticed 1) reduced access to mental health services due to mental health professionals shortages and lack of affordability, 2) decreased likelihood of receiving needed services (e.g., stigma, inadequate mental health literacy), and 3) higher likelihood of receiving poor quality treatment. Thus, Dr. Salinas aspired to help break the stigma of mental health issues and create a safe space where members of the community to access affordable mental health care services. Specializing in play therapy and supervision, Dr. Salinas also aimed to hold a space where counselors-in-training could complete their 3,000 hour internship while also learning about the business aspect of being in private practice.
Heartsease Counseling Center, PLLC was born in 2023.
